PermaLink Now that Vista is now the only Windows you can buy preinstalled...
I thought I'd take a look at analytics for this site and see what OS people who visit are using.

19 months or so after the business launch of Vista and 17 months after the consumer launch, during which time it has become increasingly difficult for most ordinary folk to buy any OS other than Vista, the proportion of Vista users should be quite high, no?

This is from a sample of over 10,000 unique visitors to this site during June 2008.

Only around one eighth of visitors to this site are currently using Vista, and they're mainly the ones who stumble in via Google having paused to question the veracity of some claim, received via email, that they have won the lottery.

OK, this site's readership may be a little biased, so let's broaden the scope.

This next graph is from a sample of over 5,000 unique visitors, during the same period, to another, more consumer oriented site for which I also have access to analytics.

It's a different picture for sure - almost no Linux users - but the Windows picture seems relatively consistent.

Only around one sixth of visitors are currently using Vista.

The proportion of XP users is almost identical in both cases.

XP may be dead, but it just won't lie down.
