Chris
try the forums at blackberryforums.com - they got me through the process of tethering both Bell and Rogers BBs. You may need to install and run the BB Desktop Manager at least once.

This might work for you:
1. Install desktop manager 4.1 or higher
2. In device manager you'll see (at least) one RIM Serial Device (COMx)
3. Connect device.
4. Control Panel -> Phone & Modem options: Create standard modem attached to COMx and set Advanced init to: at+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet"
5. Create new dialup connection and specify *99# as phone number
6. Connect to Internet with that; username=<blank>, password=<blank>
If the magic in #4 above doesn't work, ask VF UK for the right APN name to substitute in "internet"

Thanks JP. That appears to work.
VF UK was wrong about
- username
- password
(null works for both)
VF UK did not even mention
- *99# (I had guessed that part)
- APN (I knew it was needed but did not know what it was)

As God is my witness, any help configuring my Blackberry 8800 for Google Maps on a UK t-mobile account would be sooo greatefully recieved!! T-mobile UK have confirmed that I should be OK - but I note that other have had problems. GMM stops loading when it reaches the Terms and Conditions page and I get a data network error.
Any help would be fantastic
Thanks
Nick

you need a username password both of "web" in lower case..the APN is "INTERNET" in uppercase....this is the same using any phone as a Modem on the Vodafone UK network.

Thanks, Lee.
Null username and password and internet in lowercase works fine for me and has done for the entire 16+ months that have elapsed since I posted this and JP supplied the solution.
