Microsoft promises to wow people who are upgrading from Windows XP to its new operating system, but with the joys of Windows Vista comes plenty of pain.
Tim had to buy a new graphics card and a new sound card though, sadly, he did not take the time to research and report exactly why this is so. Hint: it isn't because the old ones are broken.
He has been left with a dead webcam and PDA.
A few problems refuse to go away and are both expensive and aggravating.
My Philips ToUCam still doesn't work, and plenty of angry forum debates are testament to the distinct lack of Vista support provided by Philips.
Even worse, Vista still refuses to talk to my Dell Axim X5 Pocket PC, which is a mere three-and-a-half years old.
Apparently, Microsoft thinks that people upgrading to Vista will not still be using hardware that old:
"Our view (which may be incorrect) is that those people using the latest Desktop [operating system] would potentially also be using later devices as well."
-- quote from an unnamed top Microsoft executive
Really?
And, closer to home, Chef Will commenting on an earlier item here about Vista device support says:
Well Vista completly killed all my usb ports!!! Over 7 hours on the phone with MS and no resolution(they say its sonys fault and that vista works fine) well after useing recovery software and reinstalling sp1 & sp2 plus all the other program drivers I am still unable to get the usb ports to work.
The solution for Vista upgraders would appear to be total hardware rip and replace.
Sound familiar?

My recommendation is wait for 6 months or maybe 1 year than we all can upgrade to vista. Wait until it more stable.
If you are a geek and looking for more challenges, than go ahead install it. If not, just wait and see.
