Domino Server
Allow for basic authentication of some URLs
Domino 7.0.2 allows certain URLs, for example those that generate RSS feeds, to use Basic Authentication, even if Domino Session Authentication is in effect.

Haven't upgraded any Domino servers yet, so I'm just guessing...
I guess you checked the HTTP and Domino Web Engine tabs on the server document as well as the Internet site document.
Have you checked if there is a new option under the Internet Site document on the "Web Site..." button to create a Basic Authentication URL path?

Their RSS example and the new RSS template made me wonder if it would work only with that template; I hope not.
I've been hoping for some kind of basic/session mixed authentication, for RSS. I hope it's a new URL option (e.g., &BasicLogin, to use in place of &Login) that could be used on any URL. (Having to configure each URL would be a pain.) Maybe the RSS template talks about it? (I don't have 7.0.2 on a server yet, and didn't see the RSS template on my client after upgrading.)

No idea, but I'm *very* interested. If it isn't limited to RSS (and I'm not sure how it could be, technically, since from Domino's perspective an RSS feed is just another html/xml response to an http request), this would be very useful. We all have the odd situation where session authentication gets in the way, even though we absolutely want it enabled 98% of the time.
Hm, today's a holiday in the States, but I think I need to check out my 7.02 test server tomorrow...
Thanks for pointing it out, Chris. Very interesting.

Let me make a WILD guess:
Domino checks the HTTP header and accepts a username/password that might be found there? This would be enough for most feeds?

@4 - I already am using that method - are they doing something new with 7.0.2?

Yes this is a new feature in 7.0.2 but I can't find any documentation except for that brief mention in the release notes.

Found it.
It is in Web Site Rules, but I couldn't see it because for some reason the upgrade hadn't replaced the pubnames.ntf with the one from 7.0.2 and so all servers were still running with a 7.0 design which omits this new feature.
And yes, it isn't just for RSS though that will be where most benefit accrues, at least for us.

Thanks, Chris -- I upgraded a server this weekend and after reading your note, looked at it. Well, not at all how I was hoping for it to work, but at least wildcards work.
Thanks!

Thanks Chris, I was having exactly the same problem. It's a bit odd that the NAB wasn't automatically upgraded (or at least prompted to upgrade) when the server was upgraded but it's all working woderfully now.

I did get the prompt to upgrade - and said YES.
It appears that the new design elements in the template were backed out when it replicated with other servers and the changes in the PAB were overwritten when the design task next ran. On the design properties tab a day or two later it just said that the design was based on 7.0, not 7.0.2.
In the end I had to submit an AdminP request to delete all replicas of pubnames.ntf, then replace them with a new one from the 7.0.2 install kit.
