Hot on the heels of the strangest phish I have ever seen, another very similar one this time from BMW, not VW.

The list of information required from me to collect my prize is the same as last time, and the address of the International Awareness Promotion Department of the BMW Automobile Company is exactly the same as the address of the Volkswagen UK Lottery Department - the same residential address in Stamford, Lincs.
How can that be?

I don't suppose anyone has sent a Bobby 'round to that addy for a visit? Seems like a rather daft phisher to use the same residential address twice. Do they not have Post Office boxes in the UK?
2. Chris Linfoot02/10/2006 17:11:23
I suspect the address has nothing directly to do with the phisher, possibly other than being inhabited by someone s/he doesn't like...
3. Uzair20/10/2006 07:27:48
I have also recieved that email nad i doubt the truth involved in this email
and they have asked me for some imp documnet shall i give it to them or no kindly help.
4. Chris Linfoot20/10/2006 08:45:53
No. Do not give them anything. Do not even attempt to reply!
5. nicoline van Heerden25/10/2006 10:13:36
the same has happend to me - and i actually fell for it , in a way!!!
stupid me to think you could actuall win a car!!!
6. Terry25/10/2006 17:45:08
I received the same email, but I won ONLY an additional 260,000 GBP. I did click on the email address to see what would happen, but it just took me to Yahoo, not even to Yahoo Mail. I was considering even calling the phone number in the email just to be sure, but after reading the above I know it would be a waste of time and money. Remember: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
7. nowhereman_uk07/11/2006 11:59:08
Damn!! I was so looking forward to picking up the keys to this and then driving to pick my national lottery win, which an emai linformed me I had also won !!!! Back on the bus then eh?
8. Fred08/11/2006 22:14:44
well they almost got a yank from across the water but i needed to know more so I arrived here to find the truth. So where is my brand new BMW (in need of a car real bad)
9. Lydia19/12/2006 06:04:19
Well here I am in New Zealand and yes everyone I wanted to believe it but I did a google search and found you guys complaining about the same prize.
Maybe they should be deported for scaming the Commonwealth Countires of Great Britain.
Last year I brought a cell phone off a New Zealand site that listed a UK address. Silly me I should of rung the telephone number as I forked over $800 USD.
What did that lesson teach me, I dont use the www.finda.co.nz as it does not protect the right of the individual in regards to buying from overseas companies. What pissed me off about finda is they failed to protect the rights of New Zealand citizens using the site.
PHISHING anyone

Just rec'd this 'Congratulation you are a winner!' (of a BMW and £450,00)today. As they are asking for too much personal info (an ideal opportunity for identity fraud I thought), it sounded like another scam and I was wary. Yes, if it sounds too good to be true it probably is, so I thought I'd search the internet to see if this 'division' of BMW actually exists and found your link. Has anyone actually contacted BMW's London (head) office about this. I think I'll pass it on to the Mail on Sunday's finance section to make people aware.
11. Mikel29/01/2007 19:50:11
Crud- I got the same one but stupidly I sent my info and then looked into it. What should I do to protect myself now they have my name and address and phone number and place of work? Help!
12. Chris Linfoot29/01/2007 20:53:11
First, expect a lot more spam and targetted phishing. Treat all email with extreme caution but don't worry too much. Yet.
13. emma08/02/2007 18:52:48
Boy, these guys just do not quit. I live in canada, was looking forward to a new car and some cold cash..................then my kid brother took a look and laughed his tail out. Almost fell for it.
Question is, what is BMW doing about this? do they not have a responsibility to the general public and themselves when someone is out there spoiling their good name?-----I know one thing the government is doing-----ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!!!!! cheers
14. V Lawrence08/02/2007 21:55:04
I was wondering how they were going to deliver my new car to New Zealand but guess I won't have to bother about that now ........ pity!! :-
15. Patrick14/02/2007 08:00:47
I received this email & unfortunately I responded. After 4 hrs the guy called and congratulated me again and asked that I respond to the email he had sent.
I have googled these guys and the information I get is that they are either fashion designers or book writers.
I don't know....:-

These guys are STILL at it. Over the past three weeks i have received TWO e-mails saying i had won a BMW car and one million pounds! Yep. a cool million smackers. I too continued to try and work out that this was a scam and found my way here like everyone else. I wish someone could stop these guys. Oh by the way, they appear to have moved their premises now as the international awareness promotions department is now in Lincolnshire.

It was excellent fun though in an internet cafe to log onto some very naughty pornography sites and submit "bmwautosukoffice@yahoo.co.uk" as being very interested in receiving lots more information about pornography of all kinds.
Tee hee
34. mike22/07/2007 01:22:15
I just got this same letter with different e-mails and phone numbers
<br>I hope some one is doing or going to do something to catch these guys Lucky I want more info from them before I send them mine
35. Migoz28/07/2007 17:03:26
Now I got so disappointed :/ If there are some rich people send me 650k pounds so I can buy a new car :)
That scam looks pretty nice if you dont look at the e-mail address first. It seems that they really have wasted some time to fix it look like a real thing.
"You have been approved to receive a total sum of six hundred and fifty
thousand (650,000)british pounds sterling. The selection process was
carried out through random selection in our Computerized Email Selection
System (C.E.S.S.) from a database of over a million email addresses from
the World Wide Web."

I am also the lucky winner of BMW 550i M Sport Saloon + 500,000 GBP. I did not give them any information apart from what everyone can get from my homepage. They asked for a bank account number to transfer the money, but I renounced at the money and just asked them to ship the car. Then I got contacted by a shipping company that asked for a total amount of 2.741 GBP before shipping the care. I have refused and told them that I am willing to pay, as soon as the car is parked outside my front door. The 500.000 GBP, they say that they have willed it for charity and I have asked for which kind. There we are now and probably from now on they will stop contacting me. I certainly agree that it is a fraude!
Of course you get no car, so do not waste too much time and for all do not give any bank information!
37. Abid25/11/2007 16:39:00
Ah i also recieved the lottery mail a few days back,i didnt give much imporatnce ,i thought it may not be true but they mailed again asking about my account number so that they will transfer the money. Then i thought that it might be true,i gave them my account number.I wonder what they are upto and how they will misuse my info.why is not BMW or anti fraud bodies doing something about it.
