PermaLink A worrying development
Never seen this forged in a spam before today:

X-Mailer: Lotus Notes Release 5.0.8 June 18, 2001

How do I know it's forged?

  • No accompanying X-MIMETrack (OK, that could have been stripped out by the sending Domino MTA but...)
  • Sent with SMTP, not ESMTP.
  • From an ADSL connection in Mauritius.
  • No Domino server listening there.
  • Advertising nude celebs.

OK, not absolute proof that Notes was not the culprit, but I am fairly sure it was forged.

Do you know what the Notes *CLIENT* headers look like when sending SMTP directly?

I might have a copy of a 5.x client around here I can test with.

Yes. So far as I recall they look like that one there. But I still would take some convincing that it really was Notes and not some dedicated spamware programmed to mimic Notes.
