PermaLink <MARTIN LUTHER KING> I have a dream </MARTIN LUTHER KING>
Something to keep readers coming back. Just had an epiphany and have no time to document it fully now, but thought I would tease you with it anyway.

There are protocol blocking purists (me) and there are those that prefer to accept all email and then use filtering of various sorts (Bayesian, regex, simple matching on certain combinations of words).

What if the most reliable anti-spam solution is a combination of these? What are its components and how do they interact to provide reliable, spam free email?

I think I know a very good answer to this question for Domino shops. Going home now. Will try to write it down later.

This is pretty much the point of my presentation from Lotusphere last year, and I'll be repeating it again this year. A multi-level approach to fighting spam based on a combination of protocol-blocking and various filtering techniques is what the ideal should look like. Exactly what the right combination is will differ from company to company, depending on the level of tolerance for false positives. Whitelists for both protocol-blocking and post-transmission filtering are essential tools, because they allow tightening all other techniques while keeping the false positive level within acceptable limits.

Can't wait to hear your thoughts on this.
